"The Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill 2026 amends the Broadcasting Act 2009 and the Comptroller and Auditor General (Amendment) Act 1993 to reform transparency, governance, and funding of RTÉ and TG4. It implements the European Media Freedom Act, establishes Coimisiún na Meán as the regulator with new powers to assess performance and funding every three years, and requires RTÉ to allocate at least 25% of public funding to independent productions. The bill also expands statutory duties to non-broadcast public service content, creates a new fund (Ciste na Meán) for public service content, and introduces new disclosure requirements for staff remuneration and independent production costs."
