CCAC led the process with academic modelling.

"The Irish government approved three 5-year carbon budgets on 22 February 2022, covering 2021-2025 (295 Mt CO2eq), 2026-2030 (200 Mt CO2eq), and 2031-2035 (151 Mt CO2eq). These budgets aim for a 51% emissions reduction by 2030 and climate neutrality by 2050. They were adopted by both Houses of the Oireachtas in April 2022."
